HK reports 49 new SARS cases, 3 more deaths
Hong Kong on Saturday said the deadly pneumonia virus, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, has infected 49 more people in the territory, bringing the total number of cases to 1,108.
Government health officials added that three more patients had died, taking the local death toll from the disease to 35.
Deputy Director of Health Lam Pingyan told reporters that a 67-year-old man with a history of chronic disease, a 39-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were the territory's latest victims of the deadly disease.
Three medical workers are among the new cases, as well as 11 people from the Amoy Gardens estate, while 120 people are in intensive care.

Updated numbers from Hong Kong. Note the 120 people in intensive care.
As of yesterday, 858 were still in the hospital. The average length of hospitalization is impossible to calculate with the numbers available to me, but it is clearly over 3 weeks.

What I'd like to know is who's dying??? Are they older people, kids, people with suppressed immune systems, ect.? Like any other virus or flu, it seems to hit those that are the weakest the hardest. Maybe I'm underestimating this thing, I'm not a doctor. But, doesn't it sound like the media is getting way overly hysterical over this right now??

But, doesn't it sound like the media is getting way overly hysterical over this right now?? No, I don't think so. Those are alarming figures. And we know that many of the dead were healthy middle-aged individuals.

If it turns out it's not the coronavirus, that could explain why they haven't been able to develop a reliable test yet.
But didn't WHO announce that the coronavirus had been positively identified as the cause several days ago?

For the first time, the number currently in the hospital did not rise. As many left as were admitted.

I've seen that part of the problem with the tests is that the disease has to be fairly well advanced before they work. Thus, not goood for initial screening.
